Just after Caroline and I started dating in 2004, we discovered that we had a shared love of travelling (well, I was honestly JUST discovering it, we had already gone on a couple of short trips). We decided we were going to go on our first BIG one...and NO, it's not to where you think...
Our first trip would be to Cochrane, Ontario to see the newly opened Polar Bear Habitat. It is a location that rehabilitates injured, and orphaned polar bears from all over the country. Please go to this link to see how the location has developed: (https://canadianpolarbearhabitat.com/). While on this trip, we would take the PolarBear Express train (can you sense the pattern?) from Cochrane to Moosonee, Ontario, on the shores of James Bay. We subsequently took an outboard canoe (!) to the community of Moose Factory, Ontario (about as far north as you could go at that point of Ontario).
"While we were there..." we took a side trip to Timmins, Ontario, home of the the Timmins Gold Mine Tour, and the Shania Twain Museum. Of course, we were there for the Gold Mine Tour, but we also checked out Shania's place - interestingly enough, they were at the same location! (sadly, both closed in 2012). The tour took you underground and showed you the basics of what miners had to deal with 100 years earlier. At the end of the tour, we each got a cancelled paycheque from one of the actual miners (basically, enough for a fast-food meal these days!)
I'm glad we took that trip. We have many good photos, and some wonderful memories - AND it began our ever-expanding travelog.
Have a wonderful day everyone.
