This is not a shirt from a gym. This is not a shirt from a Village People song. This is a shirt from my high school: York Memorial Collegiate Institute...YMCI. I got this 16 years ago at the 75th anniversary reunion of the school. Our school celebrates the anniversary of when it was built, and invites all of the classes back for a huge celebration.
Last year, on the 90th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone, May 6, a devastating fire destroyed the auditorium and a large portion of the central part of the building. Plans to look at rebuilding are, like everything else these days, in limbo. A good portion of the structure is sound, so that can be seen as a positive thing.
I enjoyed my time in high school. I was neither a star athlete, nor the person who got locked in a locker. I was somewhere in the middle. I performed in theatre, was a photographer for the yearbook, and sang in concerts. I made the most of what I could and made some really good friends - friends that I have to this day.
Our class existed on the cusp of the start of home video, so no moving visuals are available, but I do have audio recordings of some of the activities of the time, AND every once in a while, I go down the rabbit hole and get lost in a yearbook.
So, good times. I'm glad I found this one today...and on a weekend, so there is time to reminisce (it is the weekend, right?)
Have a great day everyone.
