The last few days, I have been watching some classic NHL games on Sportsnet. Last night, Montreal beat Calgary in game #3 of the 1989 Stanley Cup Finals, in double overtime. (Calgary went on to win the series in 6 games for their first, and so far only Cup). A couple of nights previous, I watched the Leafs win their 13th (and so far, last Cup). I had seen highlights over the years, but had not seen the entire game until then. This makes sense - there was never really a market for replaying old games, until the captive one that we have now.
Today, I am wearing a (very close) representation of the current Leafs logo. It is actually the logo that the team used from 1938 to 1967 (the only difference being the current absence of the outer line on the leaf.) I only ever really knew the 'dull as ditchwater' logo which seemed to curse them for the 40+ years that they used it in the 70s...80s...90s...00s...10s...). It had no life to it.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the game, and actually recognized the players names! It was another 4 years or so before I really started watching hockey (I was only 3 when the Leafs last won the cup), as the players I knew as veterans were just starting their careers then.
Old hockey, old movies, old music...
Make a point of watching or listening to some today, and get lost in the memories.
Have a great day everyone.
